A Legacy Rooted in French History
Our story began in 1833 with the marriage of Virginie Thiébaut and Jean-Baptiste Garnier, two linen merchants who established Garnier Thiebaut in Gérardmer, a town nestled in the Vosges Mountains. Known as one of the world’s historic textile capitals, the Vosges region offered both the natural resources and skilled artisans needed to perfect jacquard weaving. From its earliest days, the company built its reputation on elegance, precision, and a deep-rooted tradition of craftsmanship.
Garnier Thiebaut’s legacy has been guided by resilience and a spirit of evolution. After the original factory was destroyed during World War II, Garnier Thiebaut rebuilt and resumed production just five years later. In the decades that followed, the company joined HDM Industries, preserving its artisanal origins while embracing innovation and operational strength. This foundation opened the door to international expansion, including the creation of Garnier Thiebaut USA in 1997. With a U.S.-based warehouse and sewing facility added in 2010 through the acquisition of Hilden America, we’ve grown our presence across North America while maintaining strong ties to our French roots.
Today, our mills in Gérardmer remain at the center of our vertically integrated operations, equipped with solar panels, energy-saving systems, and water recycling technologies. Nearly two centuries after our founding, we continue to lead with purpose, blending traditional techniques with forward-thinking design and sustainable production practices.
