Behind The Scenes – A Single Thread Can Do Wonders

In our sewing facilities in South Boston, Virginia and the Vosges of France, we work alongside hotels, resorts, and restaurants to create unique designs through our bespoke linen services.

Take a look behind the scenes to see what 191 years of Savoire-Faire looks like, and what we could weave together.

RFID – New Wireless Tracking Technology

Is there a way to figure out which linens are being used, and which ones are in storage? Is there a way for my team to understand out how to wash soiled linen without looking for the care tag? How can I make sure that our linen that is being sent to laundries is coming back to us? To help answer these questions for our partners, we have begun to add RFID labels into our linens.

RFID, Radio Frequency Identification, is a cutting-edge type of smart label that uses electromagnetic radio waves to identify and track objects. We’ve adapted this technology to help our partners track linens, maintain inventory, and identify markers to help manage par levels. For partners who opt-in to this program, thin labels, indistinguishable to the fabric are sewn into the seam of each linen. These RFID labels hold various information, such as serial numbers, brief descriptions, cleaning instructions, and multiple pages of data that can be interpreted in seconds through RFID readers. This is a new frontier for the hospitality industry and Garnier Thiebaut USA is proud to leverage this technology to help our partners save time and labor, reduce the amount of missing or damaged linen, and gain more visibility into the laundry cycles.

These tags are recognized based on their radio frequencies:

  • Low Frequency – can be read up to 10cm away
  • High Frequency – can be read up to 1m away
  • Ultra High Frequency – can be read up to 12m away

Behind The Team

We are excited to premiere the newest section of our newsletter – Behind The Team, which we showcase team members each month, providing them with an opportunity to share insights about their experience at Garnier Thiebaut USA.

How would you describe your role at Garnier Thiebaut USA?

My job title here is Retail/Samples Shipping Coordinator.

I prepare and ship our GT online orders, third party orders such as Amazon and Rue La La and to our wholesale customers as well. I also prepare and ship samples for hospitality.

Do you have any fun stories or memories of your time at Garnier Thiebaut USA?

Here at Garnier Thiebaut USA it is more than just a working environment, it is also a team setting. When I first started here, just a few months after my hire, all of retail relocated to our current location in the warehouse. Folks from the Arlington office came down and assisted with the relocating. It was during the summer, it was hot and everyone worked very hard and worked together. Garnier-Thiebaut is like a community.

I am proud to be a part of the Garnier Thiebaut USA family.
