Plant a Tree with GT
Since 1833, Garnier-Thiebaut has been weaving in the forest of Gerdamer in le Vosges region of France. Preserving the environment in which we operate is paramount to our ethos and success as a responsible linen supplier. With the advent of innovation, Garnier-Thiebaut has embraced this methodology; using hydropower to generate electricity in our factories, training our teams to recycle excess scrap, and developing a 100% plant-based laundry detergent for cleaner wastewater. Through this commitment to sustainability, GT USA has been certified by Oeko-Tex and ISO 14001.
As we continue to evolve and grow, the mission to reduce our impact scales with us. For this year’s Earth Day, Garnier-Thiebaut USA is proud to announce our partnership with Evertreen and share our pledge to plant 5000 trees in 2023! Evertreen works with organizations interested in offsetting their carbon footprint by planting trees around the globe. So far, Evertreen has planted over 600,000 trees in 11 different countries. This replanting effort combats deforestation and creates economic opportunities for local communities. Garnier-Thiebaut USA is honored to join hundreds of other partners that have also started their own forests through Evertreen, including Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), AgencyAnalytics, and OneScreen.ai.
This year, GT USA is committing to planting 5000 Mangrove trees in Mida Creek, Watamu, Kenya, near the Arabuko Sokoke National Reserve. The Mangroves planted there will provide a saltwater filtration system and a complex root system for the area to support local wildlife. These trees also have the special benefit of protecting the local coastal communities from tsunamis and other extreme weather events. To keep track of our progress, GT USA partners will have access to satellite forest monitoring to access planting progress, survivorship, and growth over time. Evertreen and its affiliates will also take care of the planted trees for up five years so they can grow to their full potential. To learn more about our forest, see here.
It is only through the continued business with our partners, that has allowed Garnier-Thiebaut USA to participate in this initiative with Evertreen. This is not a static pledge, but a systemic iteration within our business practices. We look forward to growing our forest beyond the initial 5000 and will continue to brainstorm ways in which can adapt this program to further offset our footprint.
