Sustainability Efforts

Ethical and Environmental Efforts at Garnier-Thiebaut

Our Internal Green Efforts: At Garnier-Thiebaut, we care about the environment and work to reduce our impact on the local and global environment via processes such as:

  • Recycling all reusable materials within our facilities, offices and warehouses as well as throughout all our processes, including the treatment of used water.
  • Reducing our paper consumption by use of our ERP Systems which are based on paperless workflow.
  • Standardizing the use of LED lights to aid in the reduction of our daily energy consumption.
  • Implementing the use of recycled plastic liners, pallets, and cardboard materials.
  • Promoting low energy products such as our organic cotton linens and Green Sweet table linen.
  • Minimizing the waste of leftover fabric and any scrap material by donating these items through useful resources.
  • Utilizing rail transportation when possible to minimize our carbon emission.
  • Training our employees, contractors and suppliers to follow and utilize our environment policies.

Innovation guided by sustainability: A brief history of our dedication to reducing waste over the years during our operational processes:

  • In the 1980's, we introduced our first Polyester/Cotton terry towels.
  • In the 1990's, our Polyester table linen was enabled with Soft Touch Technology.
  • In 1996, we received our first ISO 9002 certification for our continued efforts in quality assurance in production, installation and servicing.
  • In 2003, we received our ISO 14001 1998 certification for our ability to maintain an effective environmental management system.
  • 2010-2020, we achieved a full automatization of fabric transfers and a controlled production system. We began the use of I-Care bed linen technology which allowed for the quality of bed linen to last longer, shrink less and save water.
  • In 2021, in efforts to reduce water consumption, we are developing new line of linens made of hemp. Hemp plant does not need as much water as cotton plant to grow and process (example: producing and processing 2lbs of cotton requires approximately 500 gallons of water)

  • Clean water and sanitation - Trees help to filter water and prevent soil erosion
  • No poverty - Planting trees can provide income and livelihood opportunities for local communities through sustainable forestry practices and eco-tourism
  • Sustainable cities and communities - Trees in urban areas can help to reduce the urban heat island effect, provide shade, and improve air quality.
